GILLETT, Irena Born in Poland in 1922, captured and sent to Siberia by Soviet Russia aged 17, escaped to Africa aged 20, married David Gillett, lived in Africa, then in England for the last 50 years. Through all the adventures of her life, she remained positive and optimistic. She was a forthright, strong and beautiful woman. Died on Friday, 24th April, aged 92, peacefully in the loving presence of her son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. Just before she died, she said: “I’ve had a long and interesting life….now I want to sleep.” Irena will be remembered with love and profound thanks by her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Kathryn, and by her five grandchildren, Zoe, Arthur, Keith, Alexander and Sharon. The funeral service is at the Chiltern’s Crematorium, Hampden Chapel on Friday, 1st May 2015 at 4:15pm.
