North London MEP Pauline Green says rumours that she is running for London Mayor are untrue but she has not ruled it out altogether.

She said: "It's an interesting idea and I'm thinking about it." Her secretary Mark Cottle added that at the moment all she is concentrating on is her European job.

"It's just a rumour," he said. "Various party members have approached her with the suggestion. The article in the Evening Standard saying she had floated herself isn't true. She's got work to do in Europe.

"She won't be able to consider it until the elections next year as leader of the socialist group is an extremely time-consuming job. When she's elected to do a job, she does it."
