Airport expansion frustrates green efforts
COUNCILLORS warned last night that building a third runway at Heathrow Airport would negate council efforts to cut carbon emmissions.
In passing a report on climate change at last night's cabinet meeting, councillor Sandra Jenkins welcommed its findings but, made a gloomy forecast.
She said: "The council is working hard to dramatically reduce its own carbon emmissions.
"The problem is the government are planning the extension of Heathrow, which threatens all of the good work we are doing."
Members also voted to delegate powers to the council's corporate director of planning to employ experts to help the council respond to the Heathrow consultation as part of the 2M group.
