Don your buckskins and boots, Calamity Jane is blowing into the Wycombe Swan next week.

Calamity Jane can outrun and outshoot any man in Deadwood.  Hard, boastful and desperate to impress, she travels to Chicago to recruit a star, Adelaide Adams, for the Deadwood Stage.

But things don’t go too smoothly for Calamity, as everyone in town favours the new girl and she struggles to keep her jealousy and pride in check.  It takes her long-standing enemy Wild Bill Hickok to make her see sense, and realise her Secret Love.

Taking on the sharp-shooting lead role is reality show star Jodie Prenger, who won over the nation when she sailed through the I’d Do Anything final back in 2008.

After winning the show, and a role as Nancy in Oliver! Jodie has appeared on stage in the likes of Spamalot and One Man Two Guvnors.

Since winning the show, Jodie admits it has been a whirlwind.

“Winning I’d Do Anything and of course The Biggest Loser was amazing. There have been so many good parts of my career and I'm so proud of that.

“Winning I’d Do Anything was so surreal; it didn’t sink it at first. It feels like it was so long ago but at the same time it’s like it happened yesterday.”

Her latest venture is the “warm and funny” tale of Calamity Jane. Jodie, who is a fan of the 1953 film, gave an insight into why she thought people loved the show.

“It’s just an amazing show; it has a warmth to it that many musicals don’t have and it’s such a delight to watch. It’s fun packed and it’s lasted the test of time because it’s a great piece of theatre.

“Not much has been changed from the film version, which is great. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

With the iconic Doris Day playing Calamity Jane in the 1953 film version, the musical theatre star from Blackpool, knows she has big boots to fill.

“Who wouldn’t want to play Calamity Jane? She’s a bundle of fun. The songs you get to sing are amazing. She’s an unknown entity; she’s the original girl power and she’s just like a tornado.

“Doris Day is amazing; it’s a total honour to play the character she played so well.”

Calamity Jane has an Oscar nominated score that includes The Black Hills of Dakota, The Deadwood Stage (Whip-Crack-Away), Just Blew in from the Windy City and the award-winning song Secret Love.

“The music is just wonderful. The first song, The Deadwood Stage gives me shivers, I love singing it.”

Following a sell-out run at The Watermill Theatre, Jodie is thrilled that her and her co-stars, including Emmerdale star Tom Lister and West End star Phoebe Street, have taken the show on the road.

“Touring is good fun. When you do West End, you don’t get many opportunities to go home and see your fella and your dogs, so touring is good because I can go home for the weekends.

“It can be hard being away from home but the people I work with are all brilliant which makes touring a lot easier. They’re all so talented.”

Despite appearing on stage and television thousands of times, Jodie admits  she gets butterflies before going out in front of a live audience.

“I do get nervous sometimes, but it’s like anything, if you’ve got a passion for something, you just want to do it regardless. I've always had a passion for performing. I enjoy singing so much and I love acting too, so musical theatre is perfect for me.

“I just love, love theatre.”

Jodie is passionate about the show, so much so, that she would buy everyone a ticket to see it if she could.

“If I had enough money in my bank account and I didn’t have to keep my dogs in chew sticks, I would pay for everyone to come and see the show myself.

“People of all ages just love the show; they come back time and time again so we must be doing something right.”

Calamity Jane comes to the Wycombe Swan from 14 to 18 April. Tickets range from £25 to £39, available online at www.wycombeswan.co.uk or by calling the ticket office on 01494 512 000.
