This intriguing picture of a pyramid of boys donated by Michael Curd (centre left, bottom row) enjoying a Boys’ Club event is just part of a fascinating exhibition being held in Chipperfield Village hall in celebration of the venue’s centenary next weekend.
The hall has been decorated with panels depicting the range of activities that have taken place there including baby clinics, football club dinners, choral rehearsals and drama productions, to name a few.
Although much information has been collated about the exhibition, the organisers are keen to hear from local people whose relatives live or have lived in the area. Did you attend the Hollyberry Fair? Do you remember entering the competition to become an angel or a lavender girl?
The organisers would also like help with a World War Two exhibition and are appealing to members of the public to come forward with relevant photographs, stories or memorabilia and leave their contact details in a box provided at the site.
The centenary exhibition will also be a display of straw plaiting on loan from the Dacorum Heritage Trust’s Museum Store as many of the village’s women and children worked in the industry during the 19th Century.
A booklet, by Chipperfield resident Andrew Nobbs describing the history of the hall will be on sale at the show.
The exhibition runs from Saturday, June 27 11am to 4pm and Sunday, June 28 from 2pm to 5pm with a barbecue on Saturday.
