Enjoy that big band sound with The Nick Ross Orchestra in Bushey

The birth of the big band sound is fondly retold in Anthony Mann’s 1953 biopic The Glenn Miller Story starring James Stewart as the legendary leader.

Now Bushey Festival audiences can enjoy the Sounds Of The Glenn Miller Era with The Nick Ross Orchestra at Queens School on Friday, July 17 at 8pm.

With a full line-up of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, a rhythm section and top singers, The Nick Ross Orchestra will faithfully recreate the wonderful sounds of big bands led by the likes of Artie Shaw, Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Woody Herman, Harry James and Tommy Dorsey.

Songs audiences can expect to hear on the evening include: Moonlight Serenade, In The Mood, Little Brown Jug, Begin the Beguine and Blue Moon, among many others.

The Nick Ross Orchestra uses arrangements exactly as recorded in the swing era of the 1940s, coupled with outstanding instrumental and vocal performances.

Nick Ross, who was only born in 1961, says: “I am often asked what kindled my interest in the big band sound. The obvious answer would be the wonderful music of the 1940s, but given I wasn’t around then, the first big band I actually heard live was The Syd Lawrence Orchestra. And by my early teens, I had become a dedicated fan.”

Tickets available from the Bushey Festival Box Office on 020 8950 9119, www.festival.bushey.org.uk (£15)
