AS you might expect, The Aylesbury Waterside Theatre was full for Monday night’s performance of Evita, the famous musical by Tim Rice Andrew Lloyd Webber. And the packed audience did not leave disappointed – this production of the classic show made for an impressive night out.

THE play transports us back to a post-World War II age of trilbies and chic dresses, Habitat-style decor and dial-up telephones (surely they were black – this was blood red). Stage and film action was often slower and less frenetic, but the build-up of atmosphere and tension could be masterful.

THOSE expecting the horror or tension of contemporary ghost stories may be disappointed by Classic Ghosts, as it didn’t quite achieve the modern scare-factor, but for those gripped by classical storytelling this adaptation may be of interest.

I EXPECTED big things for The Two Worlds of Charlie F. With the poignant story of servicemen and women injured while serving in the forces brought to the stage, I expected to be reaching for my tissues. But I didn't, as somehow the show lacked that certain something.
