Monty Python’s loyal fan base was out in force at the Aylesbury Waterside on opening night of Spamalot on Monday.

I've never watched a Monty Python film before, so while I didn’t know what to expect, I was hoping I would still be able to enjoy the show regardless.

And if a farting Frenchman, jokes about Gywneth Paltrow riding a beaver and a killer rabbit sounds like your kind of humour, then Spamalot is the perfect night out.

From King of the Jungle to King Arthur, Joe Pasquale takes the lead role alongside Todd Carty, who plays the loveable Patsy. Spamalot follows the King and his trusty sidekick on a quest to locate the Knights of the Round Table before heading off to find the Holy Grail.

The entire cast are very talented, each one playing multiple characters throughout the show and you could tell they were having a great time on stage.

Sarah Earnshaw, who plays the Lady of the Lake, deserves a special mention for her incredible voice, which had the audience captivated during her musical numbers.

There’s lots of improvisation throughout the show, which guarantees that each performance is different and there’s lots of references to things happening right now (Jeremy Clarkson and Katie Hopkins get a mention), which keeps the show fresh.

It was completely daft and ridiculous but it was hilariously funny.  Admittedly, it’s a bit childish to laugh at a man getting his limbs cut off, but who cares – the show was brilliant, the audience were in stitches and it was nice to laugh at something a bit silly for a change.

Overall, the mixture of a wonderfully talented cast of actors, fabulous costumes and sets and some side-splitting jokes, you’ll definitely be looking on the Bright Side of Life when you leave the theatre.

Spamalot is at the Aylesbury Waterside until Saturday, April 18. Tickets range from £13.40 to £41.90, available online at www.atgtickets.com/aylesbury or by calling the box office on 0844 871 7607.
