Greens announce GLA candidate
 |
| Sarah Edwards has vowed to fight Heathrow expansion |
THE Green Party has named its candidate for the upcoming Greater London Assembly elections in Ealing and Hillingdon.
Sarah Edwards, who works for a victims of crime charity and has represented the party in parliamentary and local elections, will stand for the seat on the GLA on May 1.
Ms Edwards, who also ran for the Ealing and Hillingdon seat at the last elections, has lived in Rusthall Avenue, Ealing, for 10 years, and has been involved in recycling initiatives as well as the local Friends of the Earth group.
She said: "There is so much that can and should be done to make London a healthier, safer and more affordable place to live.
"I will be promoting the Green Party's positive solutions to tackle the many challenges Londoners face, which include spiralling housing and fuel costs, increasing traffic, threats to green spaces and loss of civil liberties. "Our policies will address the biggest threat of all - catastrophic climate change."
"The most immediate challenge is to stop the expansion at Heathrow. It would be devastating in terms of noise and air pollution and destruction of homes; and it would totally undermine our efforts to cut greenhouse gas emissions".
