Anti-violence workshop

PUPILS from a school in Hillingdon will be trying to change the community's perception on violence among women and children.

The youngsters from Abbotsfield School for Boys are taking part in a London-wide drama programme aimed at raising awareness of the issue.

The 14 to 15-year-olds from the school in Clifton Gardens will be holding a performance workshop today for a chosen audience.

17 groups of young people in London are involved in the Trust Project created by the human rights charity Tender which promotes a society where young people and women are free from abuse.

The drama-based workshops are funded through the Big Lottery Fund, Children in Need and Comic Relief.

Susie McDonald, education coordinator for Tender, said: "Educational arts projects have a tremendous power in allowing young people to explore the difficult issues surrounding abusive behaviour.

"In Britain, one quarter of all women will experience violence from someone they should be able to love and trust. The youth at Abbotsfield School will be expressing their own concerns about what such extraordinary statistics mean for society today."
