LONG haul flights will begin to operate from Heathrow Airport's Terminal 5 from June it has been confirmed.

In a joint statement from British Airways and airport operator BAA, it was said the flights will be switched from Terminal 4 on June 5.

The move was originally planned to take place in April, but plans were halted due to problems encountered during the first week of T5's opening.

Short haul BA flights currently operate out of T5.

Willie Walsh, chief executive of BA, said: "We have taken this decision in the interest of customers, who remain our priority at all times.

"Terminal 5 is now working well and we are pleased we can confirm our plan to move in some additional flights on June 5."

Services to and from the following eight long haul destinations will be moved - New York JFK, Abuja, Bangalore, Beijing, Cairo, Cape Town, Lagos and Phoenix.
