RESIDENTS will be protesting again over the possibility of flats being built in an Uxbridge road.

The North Uxbridge Residents' Association is angry at the prospect of developers buying houses in Fairfield Road, demolishing them, and replacing them with flats.

They will be protesting tomorrow about the so-called "garden grabbing" by developers, which they say is destroying the overall look of the road.

Robert Batty, one of the local residents who will be joining the protest, said: "We all hope this one is unsuccessful, because eventually the road as it is will disappear altogether."

The protest, involving silently holding placards outside the property, will be taking place outside 10 Fairfield Road, the latest property under threat of being knocked down.

The campaigners will be gathering outside the house at 3.30pm to coincide with the visit of a planning inspector from Bristol.

The inspector is considering an appeal against a Hillingdon Council decision to reject development on that site.

Appeals against development on two other properties in the road have already failed, and Mr Batty said the campaigners hope developers are turning away from the residential road.

He said: "We have had some success, and it could be that the plan to destroy Fairfield Road could be ending.

"It seems they may be turning their attention to other roads."
