'We are looking at legal action'

HILLINGDON Council's "strong objections" to the closure of seven post offices in the borough have been ignored according to a local politician.

When the consultation over the closures was announced by Post Office Ltd, the authority registered its opposition to the plans.

The council immediately contacted Post Office bosses to offer its financial support for branches under threat of closure.

Councillor Douglas Mills, who is responsible for improvements, partnerships and community safety, said the council's offer of support has not been taken into account.

Cllr Mills, said: "We are extremely disappointed that Post Office Ltd have not taken our considerations on board and are closing them despite our strong objections.

"At present, we are looking at the suggestions we put forward to find out if there are any points which they have failed to address, with the possibility of taking legal action should it be necessary."

On Thursday, May 1, Post Office Ltd announced the following branches in the borough will close: Bath Road, West Drayton; Cranford Parade, Hayes; Uxbridge Road, Hayes; High Street, Northwood; Station Parade, Ruislip; Moorfield Road, Cowley, and Uxbridge Common, Uxbridge.
