A HILLINGDON councillor and London Assembly member has today condemned the planned closure of 14 post offices in his constituency.

Councillor Richard Barnes AM, the Deputy Mayor of London and GLA member for Ealing and Hillingdon, introduced a motion at the assembly today condemning plans to close 156 branches across London.

He said: "The recent so-called consultation was a joke. A tiny handful of Post Offices will remain open so the Post Office and Government can pretend the voice of Londoners was heard.

"If they had really listened, they would have heard the whole of London give a resounding No!' to any closures.

"This is one more example of the arrogance of the current Government.

"The imminent closure of 14 Post Offices in Ealing and Hillingdon is extremely worrying and I demand that this devastating decision be overturned."

Post Office Ltd announced two weeks ago that seven branches in Ealing/Hillingdon will be closed in order to cut costs, despite campaigns from all three parties to save various branches.
