Hillingdon youngsters enjoy experience of debating in Parliament

Standing for Parliament: Fjolla and Soila
YOUNG people flooded into the House of Commons to debate in the UK Youth Parliament.
Among the subjects discussed were the price of public transport, work, marriage for all, minimum wage and the national curriculum.
This is the fourth year the Commons has welcomed the 11- 18 year olds.
Hillingdon’s MYP Fjolla Krasniqi, 18, received 2,155 votes from young people in the area and Soila Apparicio, 18, followed closely with 1,896 votes in February after three months of campaigning.
The election process, reflective of central government, began at the Annual Youth Conference in November 2011 when six people were chosen to run for the MYP elections. Of these, the two with the most votes became representatives.
Soila said: “I have never felt so excited! Just sitting on those green seats gave me a massive buzz. I felt extremely nervous every time I stood up to try to catch the Speaker's attention, but I really wanted to express the views of young Hillingdoners in the debates.
“I've definitely come out with a thirst for more.”
