MAYOR Boris Johnson is encouraging Londoners to tidy up their community’s streets with this year’s Capital Clean-up.

Up to £40,000 worth of grants and tool kits are being offered to community groups, small businesses and youth groups to help clean up waterways, parks and roads.

Groups can apply for grants of between £500 and £1,500, or for a special clean-up kit.

Mr Johnson said: “These ‘mini face lifts’ not only boost community pride but make London a more enjoyable and attractive place to live, work, visit and invest in.”

Last year, almost 3,000 volunteers took part in the Capital Clean-up across 30 London boroughs. The initiative is in its seventh year.
