CONSERVATIVES retained control of Hillingdon Council today, with Labour being the only other party to win seats.

Of the 65 seats available in 22 wards, 42 went to the Tories and 23 to Labour.

Ray Puddifoot was re-elected in Ickenham and will remain as leader of the council, a position he has held since 2000.

Though the Conservatives had 64 % of the vote, they lost five seats to Labour.

Tories blamed it on the ‘UKIP effect’, though UKIP did not gain any seats.

There were two recounts in Yiewsley as Labour candidate Lindsay Bliss missed out by just two votes.

There was also a shock in Charville ward, Hayes, where Conservative Mary O’Connor was ousted.

She had represented Charville for 12 years but missed out by just 14 votes to Labour’s David Horne.
