A NEW all-weather cycle track and mobility centre at Pield Heath House School, Pield Heath Road, Hillingdon, will be opened this Thursday.
They are designed for children who have special educational needs and was backed by Hillingdon Council as one of its 2014 projects.
The track aims to provide a safe area to ride within the school grounds and will be available for use by other special needs schools and the wider community at weekends.
Becki Benjamin, godmother of a student, who raised more than £2,000 for the school by competing in the London to Brighton bike ride, will be among those present for the opening by the mayor.
Becki said: “I wanted to raise some money as a way of saying thank-you for the amazing work the school does.
“My cycle of 58 miles is nothing compared to some of the hurdles these children have to face on a daily basis and that’s what kept me going when the hills became too steep and I thought I couldn't cycle any more.”
Funding for the centre was raised in agreement with the borough’s other Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools, Meadow High, Moorcroft, Hillingdon Manor, Chantry and Hedgewood, as well as from grants by Transport for London and the Olympic Fund.
