AN exhibition, Home Fires and Foreign Fields, in the newly-refurbished Uxbridge Library will be funded by a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

It will also pay for talks on different aspects of the war, reminiscence sessions, workshops on tracing your World War One ancestors and a creative writing and art competition.

The £6,600 will help train volunteers to research different aspects of the war or assist with a series of events Hillingdon has planned between July and December.

Councillor Douglas Mills, cabinet member for community, said: “It is important to remember those who fought in the war and also to preserve the memory for future generations.

“The events and exhibitions will provide a huge insight and source of information to our residents.”
