A SUMMER Reading Challenge, which encourages youngsters to visit the borough’s libraries over the summer and get rewards for reading, is being launched by Hillingdon Council.

This year’s theme is Mythical Maze, which will involve meeting mysterious monsters and incredible creatures at a series of library events.

Children can sign up to the challenge at one of Hillingdon’s 17 libraries from Saturday, July 12. Last year, more than 7,000 children aged 4-11 took part.

The challenge is to visit your library six times, to borrow books to read over the summer.

After six visits, children will have completed their challenge and will be rewarded with a Mythical Maze medal and certificate. There are also 21 Mythical Mungler trump cards and other gifts.

Councillor Douglas Mills, cabinet member for community, said: “We had a record breaking response to the Challenge last year and I am confident this year will be even better.”

The Challenge runs until Sunday, September 14.
