YOUNG carers in Uxbridge will have the chance to show-off their creative skills through a series of 12-day workshops, provided by the creative arts charity, Create.

The result will be mural at the intu shopping centre.

Each set of activities will engage 15 or more participants in creative writing, visual arts and music, to enable young carers to take a break from their responsibilities.

Carers can spend more than 50 hours a week looking after a loved one, more hours than the average working week.

Create designed inspired:arts to give them a much-needed break from their adult responsibilities and to give them a chance to meet their peers in supportive surroundings.

Working with intu volunteers under the guidance of painter and sculptor Sheridan Quigley and author Carol Topolski, they will use the theme Through the Wardrobe – Imagined Worlds.

In October, a different group of participants will use this artwork to inspire original pieces of music over three days, which they will perform at intu.

Nicky Goulder, co-founder and chief executive of Create, said: “I can’t wait to see intu transformed!”

Donna Watson, intu’s marketing manager commented: “The theme stemmed from our Get Into Reading Campaign where we have been working with schools and charities to help inspire children to write their own stories and read some of the old classics.”

inspired:arts will be running until August 27 and during October half-term from 10.30am-3.30pm at P3 Navigator, 18E Fairfield Road, West Drayton and intu Uxbridge.
