UNEMPLOYED Hillingdon youngsters will have the opportunity to develop skills they need to get a career in the food industry when they visit Mondelēz International as part of a national campaign to tackle youth joblessness.

Feeding Britain’s Future – Skills for Work Month 2014 is led by research charity IGD and gives young people access to workshops in farms, factories and stores.

The idea is to give them first-hand knowledge of the skills needed to work in these places.

Partnering with The Prince’s Trust, Uxbridge College, Stockley Academy, Barnhill School, Hayes, and Groundwork, Mondelēz International will invite people to visit its Uxbridge base on September 12 and 25 for coaching and mentoring from volunteers.

Last year, the campaign reached more than 12,000 job seekers across more than 1,000 locations, creating more than 40,000 training opportunities for unemployed people since its conception in 2012.

Alex Fox, from the Uxbridge site, said: “We’ve been involved with the campaign since its launch and it has been encouraging to see young unemployed people engaging with our employee volunteers.”

The food and grocery industry is the UK’s biggest private sector employer, providing 3.6 million or one in seven – jobs.

Mondelēz International comprises the former Kraft Foods and includes brands such as Cadbury’s chocolate and Nabisco biscuits. Its offices are at Cadbury House in Sanderson Road.
