RESIDENTS are being challenged to kick the habit by Hillingdon Council's Stop Smoking team as Stoptober approaches.
Stoptober is a national 28-day stop smoking challenge. More than 1,200 Hillingdon residents took part in Stoptober last year and the borough is hoping to help more people quit smoking during this year's event.
Research shows that people who stop for 28 days are five times more likely to stay off cigarettes permanently, so the Stop Smoking team is encouraging people to stub out their cigarettes on October 1 and sign up for support.
Giving up without support is difficult, but the Stop Smoking team can advise on how to cope, nicotine replacement therapy, controlling weight gain and cravings. One to one support is also available through clinics and GPs.
Residents who kick the habit can expect to see positive changes very quickly, including improved blood pressure, circulation, energy and breathing.
