TRADITIONALLY, libraries are a place where silence is golden, but a new open-mike night at Uxbridge Library is set to change that.

The borough's flagship library, located in the High Street, will host talented musicians, writers and actors from across the borough on Friday from 7:30pm.

Cllr Douglas Mills, cabinet member for community, said: “Anyone who likes literature, music and the arts will appreciate our new open-mike night. We hope to see lots of local performers taking to the stage with a lively audience to cheer them on.”

Emma Filtness, a writer, creative writing tutor and PhD student at Brunel University, said: "Not only will it provide local writers and musicians with a regular outlet for their work, it will offer unique, original entertainment for all.

“From beginners and dabblers to students, published writers and those just looking to be entertained, it will be an enjoyable and beneficial night for all involved.”

Refreshments will be available and entry is £3.50, to be paid on the door.

If you would like to perform, you can either sign up on the night or e-mail Charlotte Baldwin, Arts Programming Officer, in advance, on cbaldwin@hillingdon.gov.uk. Residents can also email her to be kept informed about future open-mike night events.
