IMAGES that challenge stereotypes of later life will be on display at a photographic exhibition at Uxbridge Library.
It draws on research carried out at Brunel University, in which participants were asked to create a weekly visual diary to explore the habits and routines of their lives.
Dr Wendy Martin, from Brunel, said: “The aim of the research has been to focus on the very ordinary, day-to-day living of people aged 50 years and over, and to reveal important insights into their daily routines.
“By doing so, we can explore the nature of ageing and the experiences of people in later life.”
The research included 62 people who were asked to take photographs of their daily routines for a week. The images were then explored during in-depth interviews to discover the context.
The exhibition will be at Uxbridge Library from November 1-8 and will include opportunities to meet Dr Martin, a presentation by Professor Mary Gilhooly, from Brunel, on the subject of healthy ageing, plus digital drop-in clinics where people will be able to get help from Brunel Volunteers to use their laptops, mobile phones and cameras.
The Mayor, Cllr Catherine Dunn, will officially launch the exhibition at 5.30pm on Monday, November 3.
