THE campus at Brunel University in Uxbridge was a sea of colour on Friday at the #colourdash event in aid of Michael Sobell Hospice, Northwood.

On the hottest Halloween on record, more than 300 students, teachers, children and supporters turned up to take part in a crazy event, which involved wearing white and being pelted with paint at colour stations along a 5K route.

More than £10,000 has been raised so far from an event, which was run by the Brunel volunteers team.

Participants were asked to raise £50 in sponsorship with a special edition #colourdash hoodie given to those who raised more than £100.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Hillingdon, Cllr Catherine Dann, whose chosen charity this year is Michael Sobell Hospice.

The crowd was warmed up by Brunel fitness instructor Marcus Brill, followed by a countdown to the start of the dash by Commonwealth decathlon silver medallist and ex-Brunel student Ashley Bryant.

Runners were splattered with a mass throw of purple paint at the start line by spectators and volunteers and were then subsequently covered in different colours at each of the remaining four stations.

Brunel musicians were dotted around the route to keep up the momentum of the runners.

There was a real party atmosphere around the campus, with runners finishing in the quad area for plenty of #colourdash celebrations including a barbecue, street food stalls, a DJ and Hallowe’en face painting.
