FOR their next performance, the Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a selection of Russian orchestral favourites as part of their 29th season of music-making.

The programme will include Tchaikovsky’s Romeo & Juliet Fantasy-Overture, arguably the composer’s first true masterpiece.

Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances will also be performed. It’s undoubtedly his most popular work, with many of the themes now more widely known from their inclusion in the Broadway musical Kismet.

The final work will be Tchaikovsky’s Manfred Symphony, which, though less well-known, is a moving grand work from the composer, reminiscent of Swan Lake.

Hillingdon Philharmonic has more than 60 registered members and has performed a wide repertoire of works over the years.

In addition to countless concerts at local venues throughout Hillingdon, the group has also performed at some of London’s most prestigious venues, including the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Southwark Cathedral.

In July 2011, the group celebrated 25 years of music-making at the Cadogan Hall in Sloane Square.

The autumn concert presents an opportunity to hear a full orchestra performing live in the borough at an affordable price.

The concert will be led by Mackenzie Richards and conducted by the founder of the orchestra, Peter J. Williams.
