A DRUG-SMUGGLING nightclub doorman who was caught by the National Crime Agency after going on the run to Scotland has been jailed for eight years.
Sohail Kursheed, 35, of Hayes, was initially arrested in October 2012 after Border Force officers at Heathrow found 1.8 kilos of high-purity heroin concealed in consignments of handbags, sheets, rugs, cushions and purses from Pakistan.
One of the consignments was due to be shipped to his home address in Pinkwell Avenue.
The drugs would have had a UK street value of around £130,000.
Kursheed was bailed pending further enquirie, but then failed to attend a police station, where he would have been charged.
He was tracked down to an address in East Kilbride, near Glasgow, where he had been living with a girlfriend.
He was arrested and taken back to London to face charges of attempting to import a class A drug.
At a hearing at Isleworth Crown Court today, Kursheed was sentenced after entering a guilty plea.
Paul Bolton, senior investigating officer, said: “Kursheed played a lead role in these imports and, consequently, he would have expected to make a significant amount of money from them.”
