KEYS to the new £10m building for Heathrow Aviation Engineering University Technical College (UTC) were officially handed over, six weeks ahead of schedule, marking its completion.

Bryan Berry, principal of Heathrow UTC in Northwood, said: “All our staff and students are looking forward to opening the doors on January 5.

"We’d also like to thank Clearview Homes for providing us with our temporary accommodation, ensuring our students had a great first term.”

BAM Construct, who built the UTC, entrusted the keys to Mr Berry after putting the finishing touches to the building.

Brian Kelly, of BAM Construct, said: “There has been a great spirit of collaboration on this project. This incredible achievement comes as a result of hard work from our great team of young site managers.”

The new building includes engineering workshops promoting the school’s aviation engineering specialism.

Students at Heathrow UTC receive a technical education, studying their GCSE/A-levels alongside a Level 2 or Level 3 Diploma in Engineering.

Heathrow UTC is now recruiting its second cohort for Year 10 and Year 12. Prospective students for September 2015 should apply online at www.heathrow-utc.org.uk/students-and-parents/admissions
