POP star JB commended the achievements of looked-after children and young people at an awards ceremony hosted by Hillingdon Council.

The Kids in Care Awards is an annual event which recognises children and young people in care who have made an outstanding achievement in their lives.

From making good progress at school to excelling in sport, or making a contribution to the community, the council celebrated each of their successes.

This year's winners received their awards from former JLS band member JB and watched a performance from pop group KIN.

The awards were presented at the Sofitel Hotel in Heathrow and were organised with help from a panel of young people in care, who are ex-KICA award winners.

Cllr David Simmonds, deputy leader of Hillingdon Council and cabinet member for children's services, said: "We are proud of how our looked after children are overcoming difficult circumstances to achieve personal success.”
