AN Uxbridge pupil has won a Jack Petchey Achievement Award for his charity work.

Alexander Old, 14, of Uxbridge High School, is part of the Younger Members Hillingdon Youth Council, which is devoted to help the local community. He has done it since the age of 11.

He has been involved in several projects. After creating a garden for Merryfields House, a special needs school, Alexander also took part in the Incredible Edibles vegetable garden project in the Civic Centre.

“The best part was when people actually came up and took our organic food,” he said.

“This was amazing because I really saw people benefit. My volunteering has been local so I can directly see the impact of my work."

He also made £123 at his bake sale for the Make A Wish Foundation but will continue to raise more in a sponsored run after the New Year.

And he collected £500 during a charity walk for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

In addition to his school and charity work, Alex is a keen member of 2nd Uxbridge Scouts where he is a patrol leader.

He also manages to fit in some time playing for Ruislip Rugby Club too!

Alex’s £200 Jack Petchey Achievement Award money will be spent on games for the Friday after-school Warcraft club.

The Jack Petchey Foundation was set up in 1999 to recognise the positive contributions young people make to society. It’s now in its 15th year.
