HILLINGDON’S entry in the London New Year’s Day Parade won £5,000 for the Mayor's charity, Michael Sobell Hospice.

The borough was awarded third prize in the parade, which this year was themed London On The Move and celebrated the capital’s transport network.

Hillingdon was one of 14 London boroughs who entered floats to compete for the prize pot of charity cash.

Dance and performing arts agency JAM2000 choreographed this year's entry, in which Hillingdon people danced their way from Piccadilly to Parliament Square.

The money will help the hospice provide care, comfort and support for people with life-limiting illnesses.

Cllr Catherine Dann, Mayor of Hillingdon, said: “The parade is a great way to start the New Year and help raise money for a very worthy cause. “I would like to thank everyone who took part. A lot of hard work went into creating such a visually stunning float."
