A HUGE 150 tons of rubbish were cleared by Hillingdon Council from a home in Hayes to make the neighbourhood cleaner and safer.
The home owner did not comply with notices to dispose of his rubbish, which included several bicycles, polystyrene, paint pots, wooden pallets, refrigerators and gas canisters, so the council contracted a private company to do the job.
Cllr Douglas Mills, cabinet member for community, said: "We stepped in because the sheer volume of rubbish was affecting the community by encouraging others to fly-tip nearby.
"Using contractors was a last resort, but it demonstrates the council is willing to take action to ensure that residents do not have to put up with the impact of large amounts of rubbish being stored by neighbours."
The clean-up operation took the contractor three weeks and was finished on December 19. The home owner will foot the bill for the work.
