HILLINGDON Athletics Stadium in Uxbridge now has access to immediate medical attention following a £750 donation from fuel and lubricants distributor, Advance Fuels, helped pay for a defibrillator.

The easy-to-use portable unit is located outside the reception area.

The donation supports the goal of the company’s nominated charity, The Oliver King Foundation, which was set up to raise awareness of Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADS), caused by heart rhythm abnormalities.

The risk of death from SADS can be significantly reduced with the rapid use of a defibrillator to restart the sufferer’s heart.

The stadium is an ideal location for keeping one of these units as the chances of suffering heart arrhythmia are dramatically increased during exercise.

The stadium was nominated by Advance Fuels employee Anna Turner, who works at the nearby Harefield depot in Harvil Road.

Around 60,000 cardiac arrests happen outside hospitals each year and, according to the British Heart Foundation, every minute that passes without the patient receiving CPR and defibrillation reduces the chance of survival by 10%.
