CARE home residents can enjoy days out, thanks to a Hayes-based company and its donations to a charity founded by Prince Charles.

Firms such as United Biscuits in Hayes End Road donate promotional or items with damaged packaging to the charity, In Kind Direct.

The service makes the goods presentable and sells them on their website for only 20 per cent of their value.

Yarrow Housing supports vulnerable people with profound and multiple learning disabilities and often has to work within a tight budget.

Christine Aslan, care manager at Yarrow Housing, said: “In Kind Direct allows us to obtain items in the quantities and quality we wouldn’t be able to afford anywhere else.

“By saving money, it gives us that little bit of extra cash to do enjoyable things out in the community, such as Kew Gardens membership, cinema and shows.”

Autistic Nigel Deane, 53, of Yarrow’s Angela House, is one such service user.

He was able to reap the benefit by enjoying a day trip to Brighton (pictured).

A spokesman for United Biscuits, which has donated goods to an estimated retail value of £179,000, said it was pleased to work in partnership with the charity.

Around 20 charities in the Hayes area have registered to buy goods through In Kind Direct’s website.
