HAYES couple Robert Thompson, 31, and Sian-Marie Jeffries, 23, walked through the night to raise money in memory of Robert’s sister – and collected £1,151.37.

The couple, from Carlyon Road, joined broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby in Dimbleby Cancer Care’s 50/50/50 - a 50km walk through London.

Robert’s sister, Ellie, was supported by the charity before she died from cervical cancer in April 2014, aged just 31.

Robert said: “After Ellie passed away I wanted to do something to give back to the charity as Dimbleby Cancer Care offered Ellie so much in the way of support.

“Ellie would have loved this event, walking through London at night and seeing all the famous sites, so I knew I had to do it for her.

“Sian and I had a wonderful time and walked with a great team who supported one another all the way round.

“We made it round the course in good time, taking 10 hours, which was great as we were off to Italy that afternoon, so we couldn’t afford to stroll!”

Sian added: “The thought of how much money Rob and I were raising, to help people living with cancer, was a great motivator.

“I had not seen so many parts of London, so it was lovely to discover new places and that completely makes up for the fact I spent three days hobbling about afterwards. I still have the remains of a rather large blister!”

Dimbleby Cancer Care was set up in 1966 in memory of broadcaster Richard Dimbleby and is based at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals in London.

It gives practical and psychological support to people living with cancer and to their families and carers.
