AN Uxbridge man is among the winning entries that will fill ABF The Soldiers’ Charity 2016 calendar.

Dan Short’s pictures, Reflection and Sea Horse, won both the Serving and Sport categories.

The 2016 calendar is the first time official Army photography has not been used.

The winning entries were chosen by a panel of leading figures including actress Jenny Agutter and royal photographer Arthur Edwards.

The competition received more than 170 entries, split into eight categories: training, veterans, reserves, serving, families, cadets, sport and World War One commemoration.

Prizes included Canon cameras, a year’s subscription to the Royal Photographic Society, tickets to Bovington Tank Museum, a day with an Army photographer, tickets to Trooping the Colour, and a day out at Wellington Barracks viewing the Changing of the Guard.

Arthur Edwards said: "The diversity of the entries, combined with the photographic skills, made it quite hard to pick winners for each categories. Sometimes, 12 months in a year are not quite enough!

“These pictures show both the professional and human side to the men and women in the Army in such a splendid manner.”

Mr Short, who won both the serving and sport categories, said: “With photography, you will never master it, only learn what works for you and what excites you.

“You have more of a chance of taking better images if you enjoy what you’re photographing.
