FORTY talented young Londoners came together at City Hall last week to perform a specially-commissioned piece to celebrate the completion of their four-year Mayor’s Music Fund Scholarship.

The ensemble included James Lynch, who attends Hillingdon Music Service.

Composed by Danyal Dhondy, the performance of Get Up On Your Feet! was conducted by Tom Seligman and took place in front of Mayor’s Music Fund supporters, delegates from all of London’s Music Hubs, family and friends.

Renowned clarinettist Julian Bliss also took part and spoke to the scholars and assembled guests.

The Mayor’s Music Fund provides scholarships to primary children across the 32 London boroughs.

It currently supports 260 talented children in the capital through a four-year programme that nurtures and develops their musical potential.

As Mayor's Music Scholars, they receive more than two hours of music-making and other development activities every week, plus opportunities to perform in public and to attend concerts and live gigs.

Crucially, every scholar has a personal mentor, who is the link between the child and parent, school, music hub and the fund.

Graduating scholars’ achievements include gaining places at prestigious independent schools, representing the fund in Simon Rattle’s Young Orchestra for London and performing at the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony.
