TICKETS are selling fast for a high-fashion hair show on April 30 - but there are still a few left.

First and second year NVQ hairdressing apprentices at Uxbridge College are getting ready to show their modern, original designs at the catwalk-style event at The Beck Theatre in Hayes.

The best 20 were chosen at in-house heats in January to display their hair designs in the 600-seater theatre, in the show entitled The Force'.

The event, which will be sponsored by beauty product retailer Capital Hair and Beauty Ltd, will also include free samples, demonstrations, prizes and a variety of special employer's awards. There will also be performances from two local dance schools, Scorpio and Footloose.

Guests on the night will include VIPs and business people in the hair and beauty sector from in and around Hillingdon.

Jo Kearvell, head of hairdressing, beauty therapy, catering & hospitality, at Uxbridge College, said: "The competition has inspired our students to focus on coming up with some really original creations."

Judges at the January heats included salon owners from the area, some of whom train their apprentices through the college, but who did not judge the work of students from their own staff.

The judges were: Kevin Duigenan from Kevin Joseph in Hayes; Jan Wolfenden from Wolf's in Uxbridge; Mario Koutsoudes from First Impressions; Tony Armstrong from Armstrongs in Ashford, Middlesex; Roger Withers, a business development manager for Capital, and Jo Kearvell.
