A SCHOOL in Harlington is supporting a London eco initiative to provide 1,200 homes for wildlife.

Pinkwell Primary School is taking part in the KeepNesting programme, a partnership between housebuilders Keepmoat and the Royal Society for the Protection for Birds.

As greenfield land is used to build much-needed new homes, bird nesting areas are declining. Keepmoat has pledged to build and install 10 bird boxes at each of its sites in London and the South East.

And pupils at Pinkwell Primary have been helping the team by building up flat pack bird boxes.

Edward Warren, Keepmoat’s regional community impact manager, said: "We are committed to supporting biodiversity and local wildlife wherever we are working.

“We hope that the KeepNesting initiative will encourage residents to do the same and in doing so, bring the community even closer together."

Their waste management and recycling company, MSK, are supplying recycled timber for the boxes and their stationary provider Commercial has provided 20,000 sheets of recycled paper for the bird box building instructions.

KeepNesting will be entered for an award at the BIG Biodiversity Challenge this summer, which encourages people to do one thing to enhance biodiversity in the construction industry.

To take part in the challenge, submit a project by Wednesday August 19 at www.bigchallenge.info/
