YOUNG carers from Uxbridge are being given a break from their stressful role to get creative in the former home of EMI Records.

The charity Create is giving them photography and film-making workshops at the place where The Beatles’ records were manufactured.

Under the guidance of Tracey Fahy, who has worked with the BBC, the Barbican and English National Ballet, the young people have photographed each other alongside 2D images, 3D objects and the Old Vinyl Factory itself, and collaged the images into a playful and humorous collection.

And next Monday they will start shooting some short films with Create’s professional filmmaker, Aoife Twomey.

Their work will be displayed in an exhibition at Uxbridge Library from September 12.

Nicky Goulder , co-founder and chief executive of Create, said: “Young carers can face a great deal of stress and anxiety, and often have to contend with these feelings alone.

“Inspired:arts offers them the opportunity to take time out from their responsibilities in the company of other young carers who can understand their home lives.

“I am blown away by the creativity, imagination and sense of humour that comes through in the Uxbridge young carers’ photographs. Their short films promise to be a real treat.”

Half of young carers say they experience feelings of stress as a result of their role caring for a disabled or unwell family member, according to Create.
