Young stylists steal the show

YOUNG dancers, hairdressing apprentices, community leaders and business people from Hillingdon and beyond joined forces for a high-fashion hair show.

The event at The Beck Theatre in Hayes on April 30, entitled The Force, gave hairdressing apprentices from Uxbridge College a chance to show their modern, original hair designs on stage.

The stylists enlisted the help of dancers from Footloose and Scorpio dance schools, who modelled their hairstyles, and performed dance routines on stage to a packed theatre.

Awards were also given out to honour the achievements of apprentices and salons in maintaining high standards of training and learning, with winning salons including: First Impressions; Chris' Hair Fashion, Chris' Hairdressers, Wolf's, Leopard Lounge, Kevin Joseph, Mark Thorpe, www.comb, Hi-lites, and Visage.

The event was sponsored by beauty product company Capital Hair and Beauty Ltd, of Hayes. Suppliers set up stalls in the theatre foyer to give out free samples and information to visitors.

The guests of honour on the night were the Mayor and Mayoress of Hillingdon Cllr David Routledge MBE and Janet Routledge, who were also joined by ,members of Hillingdon Council and other community figures.

Speaking on the night Rachel Davies, principal of Uxbridge College, said: "Working with businesses to give their staff the skills they need is one of the most important roles Uxbridge College plays in the communities of west London and beyond. And if one thing is for sure in our shifting economy, it is that regular haircuts will always be in demand!"

The apprentices taking part in the show were first and second year NVQ students at Levels 2 and 3.

Members of the public, staff, students and friends of Uxbridge College are invited to the college's annual in-house hairdressing show on May 10 at the Hayes Community Campus off Coldharbour Lane, Hayes.
