CHARITABLE swimmers made a splash at the first ever swim-a-thon in aid of Michael Sobell Hospice at St Helen’s School in Northwood on Sunday.

Water babies of all ages took part in the splashing event that raised more than £1,500 for the hospice.

The fabulous fundraising swim saw participants completing laps of the pool and achieving their swim-a-thon targets, including Joanne Webb, who completed 60 lengths, and Hazel Allen – both fundraising volunteers at the hospice.

Michael Sobell Hospice events manager Ophelia Chambers-Henry said: “We’re delighted with the support for our first swim-a-thon and would like to say a very big thank you to the team at St Helen’s School for providing the venue free-of-charge.

“We must also thank all those volunteers who have lent a helping hand today, including our lifeguard Harvey, and to every single swimmer who got out of bed this morning to take to the water.

“In total our swimmers completed over 200 lengths which is simply fantastic.”

Michael Sobell Hospice has been providing specialist hospice care and support to local families facing life-limiting illness across Herts and Bucks since 1977.
