HILLINGDON Philharmonic Orchestra are performing a special anniversary concert celebrating their 30th birthday this month.

The 30th anniversary concert will feature the music of Sibelius, Smetana and Dvořák at All Saints Church on Saturday May 21.

Sibelius’ Karelia Suite will be performed, one of the composer’s most popular works, known as a trio of musical pictures filled with wonderful melodies and rich orchestral colours.

Smetana’s Tone Poem ‘Vltava’ will also be performed, an evocative musical depiction of the rolling river that passes through the city of Prague.

Finally the concert will conclude with Dvořák’s Symphony No. 8 in G major, a delightfully optimistic work filled with folklike melodies of a Czech character.

Hillingdon Philharmonic Orchestra was formed in 1985 and is now well established in the area with more than 60 registered members.

Its membership continues to be made up of amateur musicians who wish to continue to develop their orchestral playing.

Over the last 30 years the Orchestra has performed a wide variety of works at some of London’s most prestigious venues including Cadogan Hall, Southwark Cathedral and the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the South Bank.

The Orchestra has also given countless concerts at venues throughout Hillingdon, including two outdoor concerts with fireworks in the grounds of Swakeleys House in Ickenham.

The Orchestra’s 30th Anniversary Concert promises to be a very special occasion and a great opportunity to once again hear a programme of classical favourites performed live by the talented local musicians of the orchestra.

The concert will be led by Lucy Cumming and conducted by the founder of the Orchestra, Peter J. Williams.
