A MILKMAN turned Conservative councillor will be hoping to deliver policy change as well as pints of semi-skimmed if he wins the GLA seat for Ealing and Hillingdon tomorrow.

West Drayton Councillor Dominic Gilham, who has worked as a milkman for 25 years, is looking to win back the seat his party lost to Labour’s Dr Onkar Sahota in 2012.

The 47-year-old Hillingdon resident was joined by Conservative mayoral candidate Zac Goldsmith on his early delivery run in Kensington earlier this week, and he believes his close links with the party will help him to tackle London’s spiraling housing crisis.

He said: “Every candidate will tell you we need to build 50,000 homes a year but it all comes down to which party can deliver on that promise.

"Only a Conservative mayor will be able to work together with the national government and that is why Zac is the only candidate who can solve London’s housing shortage.”

Councillor Gilham also pledged to help maintain funding for London’s police services.

He said that City Hall’s seven priority crimes — burglary, criminal damage, robbery, theft from a motor vehicle, theft from a person, theft of a motor vehicle and violence with injuries  — have all fallen in frequency since outgoing Mayor Boris Johnson was elected eight years ago.

After spearheading a community campaign to stop motorbikes using a pedestrian alley in Yiewsley, Councillor Gilham was elected to Hillingdon Council in 2010 and he believes his experience in the role has given him all the skills he needs to be an effective GLA member.

He said: “I am proud of my record of delivering for our local residents and it is very important that the borough has someone who is prepared to stand up and be on their side in the GLA — that’s why I am the best man for the job."
