PARALYMPIAN gold medalist Natasha Baker will be among the former students at a Ruislip school’s first alumni event next month.

Baker, of Uxbridge, won two equestrian gold medals at London 2012 and has permanent nerve damage after contracting a virus at 14 months old.

She will welcome alumni to the event at Bishop Ramsey C of E School on June 25, which is seeking more former students.

Headteacher Andrew Wilcock said: “It promises to be a great opportunity for former students (and staff) to get in touch with each other again.

“We hope that it will be the beginning of a new phase in the life of the school, which sees much closer links between past and present students.”

The school is also inviting students who attended Bishop Ramsey’s two predecessor schools, Ruislip Manor Secondary School (1926-1977) and St Martin’s C of E Secondary School in Yiewsley (1958 – 1977).

Bishop Ramsey is one of 400 state schools across Britain registered with the education charity Future First, which supports students through schools’ alumni networks.

Future First managing director Alex Shapland-Howes said: “More than 39 per cent of state school students don’t know anyone in a job they’d like to do.

“If they see that someone who went to the same school, grew up in the same community, has achieved a fulfilling and satisfying job, it helps them see it’s possible for them too.

“It’s really important for all students to be motivated to succeed in the working world and hearing first-hand from relatable people in interesting jobs can make a huge difference.”
