A HAYES woman is to tackle the world’s highest mountain to save vulnerable families the pain of being separated.

Laura Lindores, will climb Everest in November and has also organised a family day at Uxbridge Golf Course in August, to raise money for Save the Family.

She has worked for homeless charities Shelter from the Storm and Crisis and wants to boost the profile of a smaller charity, which supports families that are homeless or heading that way.

“If you’re going to get someone’s name out there, you got to do something pretty big for it,” said Ms Lindores, who now works as a water engineer scheduler.

She aims to go as far as she can up the Himalayan mountain, which reaches five-and-a-half miles above sea level, but sees Base Camp as the minimum target.

She has been preparing by focusing on strength and cardio training and by visiting a pressurised altitude centre in London. “This is probably the biggest thing I’ve done so far and probably ever will do in life because everything else is going to be easy after this,” she said.

She has already raised more than £1,800 and wants to raise at least £3,400.

Ms Lindores said: “Having been in a bit of a bad relationship in the past myself I can relate to how horrible it is when you feel you’ve got no one you can go to. I don’t think anyone deserves to ever feel like that.

“If the families up in Chester know that people in London are actually fighting for them and speaking up for them it’s going to give them that motivation to want to turn their lives around.

“Because they know that there are people out there who actually do care and will be with them all the way to help them do that.”

She is offering any companies that sponsor her the opportunity to print their logo on her climbing gear.

The philanthropist believes she is as ready as she can be. “I am not getting nervous about it because you don’t know what you can achieve until you try,” she said.

“I just think it will be a massive experience and something that I will look back on in a few years and say: ‘I can’t believe you did that’.”

The family day at Uxbridge Golf Course is on August 21 from 11am to 5pm, with gift stalls, face painting, a bouncy castle and karaoke.
