A DEVOTED widower shaved his head in memory of his wife who died in April.

Gordon Hill, 60, of Comyne Road, has raised three times more than his set target for Macmillan Cancer Trust.

Mr Hill’s wife Janice died earlier this year from the disease and said as soon as he decided to get the haircut done, donations flooded in.

He said: “At the moment we have just over £300. Originally I pledged to raise £100, but virtually all the neighbours in my road have contributed.”

Friends and family travelled to Watford Ex-Services and Social Club to support Mr Hill. One of Mrs Hill’s oldest friends, Sally Johnson, did the shave.

He said: “Janice’s hair was her crowning glory, sadly she lost her hair twice during treatment.”

The couple met at The Railway Club, in Watford. After just one month, Mr Hill proposed. He said: “I just knew she was the one when I first saw her. She died just before our 28th wedding anniversary.”

Mr Hill, who works for Veolia, an environmental solution company, said: “I told her that I loved her every day, twice a day at times.”
