Travellers have pitched up on a piece of land just weeks after damaging a fence.

The land at Everett Rovers FC in North Western Avenue, in Watford, has already had trouble with travellers at the beginning of August.

Thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused to the grounds of the football club by travellers after they illegally set up camp.

The land belongs to housing developer Taylor Wimpey who are working to remove the travellers from the land.

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “We can confirm that a group of travellers have unlawfully accessed and are currently occupying land off North Western Avenue in Watford.

"As the owner of this land, we are in the process of taking action to ensure the travellers are moved on from the site as soon as possible.”

Police and Watford Borough Council are working alongside the developers following the troubles at the beginning of the month.

Olivia Funucane, from Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: "Police were called just after 10.35am today (August 25) after a number of vehicles belonging to the traveller community entered land off Dodd Road, Watford.

"Officers are currently liaising with the landowners, who have responsibility for moving the group on.

"Police will continue to monitor the situation.”
