Staff have donated their time, materials and tools to give a cancer centre a needed refurbishment.

Skanska UK staff gave up their Saturday on August 20 to take on the task of refreshing the wood and paint exterior of the cancer treatment centre.

The exterior was in need of attention to bring the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, in Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, in Northwood, back to its former glory.

Head of Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, said: “What a huge difference this project has made.

“The team’s hard work has transformed the building and made it a warmer, more welcoming environment for patients to visit.

“This facelift reflects the passion of the LJMC staff to provide the best possible service to people affected by cancer.

“We cannot thank the Skanska team enough for their hard work.”

The Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre was one of the first of its kind when it opened in 1993 and the centre provides support and information to people affected by cancer.

The centre supports patients and their families and helps them cope with all aspects of the disease from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.

Chris Butcher, Skanska works manager, said: “The event was a fantastic way for Skanska to give something back to the community and help support the great work the centre does.

“It was more than a paint job for us, it is helping create an environment of solace and encouragement for all that walk through the doors of this fantastic facility.

“It has been an honour and a pleasure to be part of this project.”
